| DIVORCE & ANCILLARY RELIEF The Family Department is headed by assistant solicitor Georgina Hetherington who specialises in Child Care and matrimonial matters and is a member of the Children Panel, Advanced Family Law and Resolution Specialist Panel, as well as an experienced advocate. A couple can only commence divorce proceedings if they have been married for more than 1 year. We can help resolve the problems arising from your marriage with our specialist department. Financial and Property Claim You and your spouse may be able to reach an agreement as to financial arrangements arising from a divorce or separation including maintenance and how property and other assets may be divided. If this is the case we may assist you in recording the agreement in a Deed of Separation or file a Consent Order with the Court and it will therefore not be necessary for you to attend Court. If an Agreement has not been reached, we will be happy to help you to agree a financial settlement which is realistic and enables you to retain sufficient assets and income for your future life Our expert advice and negotiating skills will ensure that you retain a fair share of the matrimonial assets acquired during your relationship. We can also look at protecting your interest and pension rights accrued by either yourself or your spouse. As a member of Resolution we are committed to helping you in a sensitive, constructive and cost effective way. If no Agreement can be reached applications can be made to the Court for periodical payments, i.e. maintenance, lump sum property adjustment orders and orders in relation to pensions. When making any decision relating to financial matters, the Court will take regard of all the circumstances of the case and put the welfare of the children first.
